Purchasing Overload

Sunday, May 30th, 2010

Ever think about what it is that you purchase… everyday, every dime, every time?

Or do you go into unconscious, robotic consumer mode and when the end of the day rolls around your bank and /or pockets are empty.  I have to confess to doing that more times than I would like to admit.

Is it really a negative attribute? Shopoholism?  I thinking there’s two sides to this story.  I guess it could ruin your life if you’re spending away your rent money or house payment.  However, if you’re reading this… it means you’ve probably have this kind of spending some what under control. (Either that or you’re using a friend’s computer.)

On the good side of over-shopping, you are more than likely well prepared for the next huge natural disaster.  Your pantry well stocked with the canned foods and plenty of new Tommy Hilfiger sweaters and tote bags so you’ll look stylish and be warm in the disaster relief shelter.

However, on the downside; you are not saving for the future.  What happens when its time to retire?  What happens when the job dries up or the company folds?  You have no cushion to fall back on.  What will you do when the future arrives and you have nothing to show for it but a couple of computers, 3 printers and 5 microwaves?

Shopping may be an addiction for some, but if you are aware of that addiction you need to seek help before you shop life away.

Hypocrites bug me

Saturday, March 20th, 2010

Merriam-Webster’s Online Dictionary (cool site) defines a hypocrite as

1: a person who puts on a false appearance of virtue or religion
2: a person who acts in contradiction to his or her stated beliefs or feelings

On the surface, these fakers, these poor elementary social fraudsters seem normal. But looking a little closer, these are the people who will do the following and think nothing of it.:

They flip you off as they drive by with a bumper sticker that reads “Have a nice day.”

They’ll quote “To err is human but to forgive Divine” from one corner of their mouth while from the other side they’re trashing you for a mistake you made over 3 years ago.

They’ll send you emails purporting the vurtues of a smile and positive attitude, but have no problem telling you how much of a pain you are to them.

Or tout they are a independent business person with upstanding references and then stiff you for money owed.  (What a pussy this guy was)

So is it they have double standards, or are they begging to be whacked upside the head?

Lying on the web doesn’t make it true.

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

Have you ever noticed how some people will lie on their myspace or facebook accounts for no good reason? Make a comment like… “we just moved to a bigger and nicer house, it’s 2500 square feet with a three car garage.” When it actuality they moved to a 900 square foot apartment.

Or another good one… “My wife and I are thinking about getting a new dog.” When the dude isn’t even married. What’s the point? Just because you have lived with the girl for 5 or 6 years and you act like a married couple doesn’t make you married. You need to go get a marriage license. Otherwise when one of you dies the state and SSI aren’t going to see you as married and you won’t get their benefits, etc.

Sure you could be married in theory and in your minds but when it comes to the courts or your benefits… you gotta have it in writing.
