Purchasing Overload

Sunday, May 30th, 2010

Ever think about what it is that you purchase… everyday, every dime, every time?

Or do you go into unconscious, robotic consumer mode and when the end of the day rolls around your bank and /or pockets are empty.  I have to confess to doing that more times than I would like to admit.

Is it really a negative attribute? Shopoholism?  I thinking there’s two sides to this story.  I guess it could ruin your life if you’re spending away your rent money or house payment.  However, if you’re reading this… it means you’ve probably have this kind of spending some what under control. (Either that or you’re using a friend’s computer.)

On the good side of over-shopping, you are more than likely well prepared for the next huge natural disaster.  Your pantry well stocked with the canned foods and plenty of new Tommy Hilfiger sweaters and tote bags so you’ll look stylish and be warm in the disaster relief shelter.

However, on the downside; you are not saving for the future.  What happens when its time to retire?  What happens when the job dries up or the company folds?  You have no cushion to fall back on.  What will you do when the future arrives and you have nothing to show for it but a couple of computers, 3 printers and 5 microwaves?

Shopping may be an addiction for some, but if you are aware of that addiction you need to seek help before you shop life away.
